Fossils are the remains of prehistoric animals preserved in soil or rock. when an animal died sometimes it would be covered in sand or soil. Fossils are all almost found in sedimentary rock. There are 6 different types of fossils. those fossils are mold fossils, cast fossils, preserved fossils, petrified fossils, carbon film, and trace fossils. Mold fossils are fossils that are covered in lots of sediment and end up a mold of the skeleton. A cast fossil is created when minerals fill the mold to create a cast in the shape of a skeleton. A preserved fossil can be formed by amber, tar, and other things. This fossil either has no change or very little change. when an organism is forming into a petrified fossils minerals will replace a part of it. carbon film is created when a coating of carbon on a rock is in the shape of an organism. A trace fossil is the fossil of the trace of an animal instead of the animal itself.
The Absolute Age
The absolute age is the age of a fossil in years. You can find the absolute age by finding out the age of the rock in witch the fossil was found. You can do that because the rock was formed the same time that the fossil was formed.
